On Friday, 12th January, SpaceX announced that it would be laying off 10 percent of its employees, according to Reuters. The company has around 6,000 employees which means that around 600 people would not be working for the company.
SpaceX told Reuters that it needed to become “leaner’ and that’s the one of the reason for the layoffs. The company also stated that in order to avoid bankruptcy and achieve its vision of global space-based internet and interplanetary spacecraft it needs to cut costs.
In 2018, the company had 21 successful rocket launches and sent a Tesla roadster into orbit with the help of its Falcon Heavy rocket. SpaceX also sent a GPS satellite for the U.S Air Force at the end of 2018.
In June 2018, SpaceX replaced multiple employees of its senior management team after disagreements on the company’s Starlink satellites.
