We provide classes for beginner through advanced levels. Ages range from toddler through adult. We offer ice skating classes at five different rinks in Western New York.
Learn to skate
LTS 1 classes will have a five-minute off ice break. All classes with the exception of Adult classes which include 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of practice time will meet for 45 minutes. Classes will be cancelled when West Hartford Public Schools are cancelled or dismissed early due to weather. Credits may be given for extenuating circumstances only, at the discretion of the rink manager.
Please wait until the end of a class to do so. Are lessons cancelled when WHPS close or have an early dismissal for snow? There are no make-ups for missed classes. If my child misses a lesson illness, vacation, etc. Fit is very important when it comes to skates.
When we cancel classes due to the weather, public skating passes will be issued as reimbursement. Which type of skates are appropriate? The rink has a highly qualified staff of instructors who show a talent for working with children to teach the Learn to Skate classes. How old does my child need to be to take lessons? The instructors will evaluate each student to find out their level and place them in the correct class. How fast will my child progress through the program?
The first day of each cycle is primarily a testing day to determine the ability of each student. If and when spaces become available in a filled class, persons on the waiting list will be contacted in order.
We have up to children enrolled in each cycle and make-ups would be virtually impossible to schedule and would disrupt the continuity of the lessons. They tend to be too long for the instructor to see if the student is skating properly and not turning their ankles.
Unfortunately, there are no make-ups. Are lessons held during school vacation? How long are the classes? The Program Supervisor and instructors keep a close eye on and record the progress of each student, to ensure the best possible. The instructor will check off all skills achieved and will indicate if your child has moved on to the next level. We have a staff of highly trained instructors who can work with individuals during various sessions.
Either single blade figure or hockey skates may be used for the Learn to Skate program. All efforts should be made to attend all lessons in a cycle to attain the best and to not disrupt the flow of the classes.

To avoid classed being cancelled at the last minute due to under enrollment, cancellations and refund requests must be made three 3 business days before the program begins. Private Instruction VMSR offers private instruction to individuals who either cannot participate in the Learn to Skate program or are working on figure skating goals over and beyond the Learn to Skate program. What will happen the first day of class? The Rink's Learn to Skate program is dedicated to providing quality instruction. Are lesson fees refundable? The development of strong fundamental skills will make ice skating fun for the recreational skater and prepares serious skaters for future figure skating and hockey.
